Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions? We have answers!

How much does your work cost?

The majority of our projects are one-off custom designs and fabrications where budgets are specific to that projects’ needs.  We are competitive with other design and fabrication companies, however our cutting edge fabrication shop allows us to utilize the computer to create highly detailed and custom jobs while remaining on budget and on time.

We are looking into launching a product line in the future, so stay tuned for updates if you would like to purchase your own custom-fabricated DF design!

How do I start the design process with Design Fugitives?

The best way is to just send us an email with your contact information and a little bit about what you are trying to design or make.  It doesn’t matter how in-depth your project – whether you have a napkin sketch, a pipe-dream, or a fully drawn CAD model – we are excited to talk to you!  Please drop us an email (best option) at:  [email protected] or call at 414-377-3977.

I have an idea. Will you help me design it?

We are always open to new ideas and would love to work with you!  Our many design and fabrication services can be utilized individually or as a comprehensive design and fabrication package – a more cost-effective option.  Design Fugitives thinks of ourselves as collaborators and no matter how many of our services you need, we work with you through the entire design and fabrication process.

Can you CNC cut this for me?

The short answer is, YES. More specifically, though, we would need to know a little more about what you want  to cut – we may be able to help you with the efficiency of the cutting, or if the CNC is the right tool. Our prices are competitive with other CNC cutting services in the area.

I heard you have a laser cutter! How do I set up my files for cutting?

Yes, we do have a laser cutter – what a wonderful toy! Glad you are interested. To make cutting easier for us please see the following sheet for rules on preparing a file for cutting.

Where did that name come from?!

Design Fugitives began in 2009 as a design collaborative – a co-op of sorts that shared resources and tools. The name was chosen by original dF founders to emphasize the unique nature and mindset of the co-op which many values still imbue dF today. We’re on the run from the ordinary and unoriginal – always on the hunt for something more elusive and unique in our designs.

So, you're architects?

While our partners all hold master’s degrees in architecture from UW-Milwaukee’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning, they gravitate more toward “artist” than “architect.” Design Fugitives aim to create architectural-scale art pieces — sculptures that compliment and enhance beautiful existing architecture. While our primary focus tends to be on suspended atrium sculptures, 3D wall coverings, ecclesiastic art, and LED fixtures, we gladly consider any project that pushes the boundaries of what architectural-art can communicate.
