LECTURE | In Search of Dark Matter - UW-Milwaukee

Summary: Date: November 16, 2012 | Time: 4:30pm |
Location: Architecture and Urban Planning
Presentation by by by Ryan O’Connor and Paul Mattek, partners, Design Fugitives
"In Search of Dark Matter is just our way of referring to an idea that has been around for a long time, the search for new connections and relationships – in a word: integration. In our case, the integration of designing and making. The second integration is of project and product. For now, we are a small firm acting as the material liaisons for architects. In the future, we hope that more architecture firms will make their own integrations of design and making into their practices."

Summary: DESIGN EMERGENT PRACTICE - "TANGENTS" by: Tuan Tran
"Unlike other start-ups, we did not have a clear business plan. We saw an opportunity in the market for a practice that provides design and fabrication services. Unlike traditional design-build practices, we leverage computational design and advanced fabrication techniques. This tangential approach gives us the capability to take on projects of various scales, scope and complexity."

ARTICLE | Archilepsy - Design Fugitives Profile

Summary: FIRM PROFILE IN ARCHILEPSY - by Bryan Finnegan
"Building the CNC machine was more of a labor of love than experiment. Just ask DF member Tuan Tran who has been laboring on the machine for months. Aside from the actual mechanism, the entire steel platform for the rig was built by the DF team in their space. Detailed steel pieces were ordered from a fabricator and accented with a little Badger red."
